Saturday/Sábado, October/Octubre 24, 2009 - 8:30 p.m. The Cleveland Institute of Music brings one of today's hottest Cuban Salsa bands, two-time Grammy nominated TIEMPO LIBRE, to the stage of Severance Hall to perform with the CIM Orchestra, led by Carl Topilow. Experience the hypnotic, rhythmic intricacy of Rumba Sinfonica, a new work created for Tiempo Libre by noted Venezuelan composer Ricardo Lorenz. His fiery orchestration, with the virtuosic, jazzed-up arrangements of Tiempo Libre's pianist and music director Jorge Gomez, results in a fusion of urban rhythms with the polished sounds of the orchestra. In the second half of the concert, Tiempo Libre's dynamic, passionate timba music celebrates the group's Cuban roots and newfound American experience. Across the country these conservatory-trained, Miami-based musicians are bringing symphony audiences out of their seats and onto the dance floor. A benefit for the Cleveland Institute of Music presented by the CIM Women's Committee with support from Presenting Sponsor Invacare and sponsors Buckley King and RSM McGladrey.
