What is HALDI?

The Hispanic Alliance Leadership Development Initiative (HALDI) provides professionals and emerging leaders the training, professional development, networking and community engagement opportunities needed to contribute to the advancement of the Hispanic community.

Core Program Components:

HALDI spans over nine months and includes three components: Training, Mentorship, and Community projects.

  • TRAINING develops participants’ skills in cultural competency, innovation, cross-cultural communication, self and task management, social responsibility and leadership building.
  • MENTORSHIP matches the participant with a mentor for twelve months and engages the participant in community networking and information sharing events.
  • COMMUNITY PROJECTS prepare participants for more active and informed involvement in community affairs. These projects help increase group leadership skills, increase individual leadership skills, and learn more about non-profits in the community.

Why should you participate in the 2012 HALDI Program?

This is the first step toward developing culturally competent leadership skills to become a more effective decision-maker as a team member, board member or volunteer. This is also an opportunity to connect emerging Latino leaders with local public, private and non-profit corporations looking to diversify their entities and board of directors, committees and commissions, etc.

Do you realize the importance and increased focus on staff and board diversification? Here's a compelling reason why:

The U.S. and Cleveland are undergoing a fundamental structural change in both human capital and market demographics. According to the Selig Center, the Latino population (including Puerto Rico) totals over 50 million people (15.5% of the total U.S. population) and Latinos have over $870 billion in purchasing power, therefore, serving the U.S. Latino market is a compelling opportunity for many major public, private, and non-profit corporations. Unfortunately, the Latino community is not proportionately represented within decision-making entities that have a direct impact on our community.
