TO FEATURE “QUEEN OF MERENGUE” MILLY QUEZADA
CLEVELAND – The Spanish American Committee (SAC) is proud to announce the 2nd Annual Noche de Gala fundraiser – “Noche de Gala Tropical!” The Gala will take place Friday, November 20 at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel (24 Public Square), 6:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m., and will feature Latin Grammy award-winning artist, Milly Quezada and her orchestra. The Gala will also include a VIP Reception and Dinner, Evening Dance (with light meal), silent auction, prize drawings, and more. Proceeds will directly support Spanish American Committee programs and services.
The Honorary Chair of the event is the Honorable Frank G. Jackson, Mayor, City of Cleveland. The Co-chairs of the Gala are: Dr. Maria Jose Pujana, member, Board of Directors, The Cleveland Foundation; Peter Lawson Jones, Commissioner, Cuyahoga County; and Michael Byun, Executive Director, Asian Services In Action, Inc.
Over 700 people attended the first black-tie fundraiser presented by the Spanish American Committee (SAC) last November. “Noche de Gala” was a community celebration with delicious food, dancing, silent auction, prize drawings and top-notch entertainment.
Says Rose M. Bardwell, Executive Director, The Spanish American Committee, “This year’s event promises to be another magical evening. Noche de Gala Tropical will engulf the unique Caribbean sounds and colors of Latin America, while providing our guests with a wealth of information on our programs and services. But more importantly, we will be celebrating 43 years of history in the Cleveland metropolitan area!”
“The entertainment at this year’s Gala is expected to be a big hit”, says Bardwell. Known as the “Queen of Merengue”, Milly Quezada’s musical style is a vibrant combination of Merengue, Tropical, Bolero and Latin Pop. Born in Santo Domingo, Quezada honed her craft when her family moved to New York during her teenage years. Being surrounded by a lively Latin music environment that included Merengué and Salsa, helped Quezada develop her love for the musical style. It is interesting to note that Merengué has been comically referred to as “the Latino weight-loss program" since it has an infectious rhythm, and the songs tend to inspire adherents to enthusiastic dancing.
Tickets to Noche de Gala Tropical are $55 (for admission to the Evening Dance that includes a light meal) and $150 (includes admission to the VIP Dinner and Evening Dance).
